After the homebuyer’s escrow or mortgage closing, the keys to the house and the transmitter to the garage door opener are given to the new homebuyer.

The homebuilder should check beforehand that the keys open all of the locks and that the garage door opener transmitter has been coded and labeled correctly.

Testing can prevent a major weekend debacle, should the moving van arrive at a new house within the production housing tract…that the homebuyer cannot open because the keys were labeled incorrectly at the hardware supplier…and not tested in advance.

The homebuilder does not want to get this telephone call early on a Saturday or Sunday morning from a panicked new homebuyer.
